Blizzard is awesome.

That being said.

Here’s the new P1MP Yo Ride!

“Tired of your mount looking like every other raptor, wolf, horse, kodo, or nightsaber out there? Want to spice it up with some armor plating, a few spikes or chains, or maybe even some flaming decals? Then Z to the A to the zzber (whew, that’s a mouthful!) will be glad to welcome you to his shop where you can epic-ize your mount with some phat total pimpage! “

That’s totally sweet.

And totally not cool that its an April Fool’s Joke.

Grats Blizzard for making me want something else in this game.

/applaud.

I wish I was that creative.

Um…
Dav’s April Fool’s gag on you guys?

um…

I’m totally an orc.

The Addon Revolution

Ok, everyone’s talking about it, so I thought I’d drop in my two cents.

Blizzards pulling a smackdown on addon developers and their ability to make money on the addons. They dropped a bunch of rules and the result has been pretty expected:

Major addon developers threw up their hands and said that they are pulling out.

I’ve got multiple things to say about this.

Making money off of other people’s work is wrong. If you’re doing the Carbonite thing (Carbonite was making enough money to hire full time employees) then this is great. Addons were originally released as a means of allowing us to customize our experience. Customized or not though, you’re still playing in Blizzard’s sandbox. Making money off of someone else’s work=wrong.

Being rewarded for your efforts is good. On the other hand, I’m all for the idea QuestHelper used, where, when you sign in, it asks for donations. That’s awesome. I don’t Have to pay, but I can if I want to. The developer isn’t surviving off of the income made through donations, but they are getting rewarded for their efforts. That’s awesome.

Losing our Addons is sad. But not bad. Heck, I lived off of questhelper, and if rating buster disappears then I’m in deep trouble and actually going to have to learn *gasp* math! Darn it, I’d be just plain “SOL” if they destroy Bartender 4.

When I first read about the addon smackdown, I noted the words “Blizzard has supplied us with the means of making addons.”

Wait…what?

So I googled it. Found some workshops for making addons and have come to another conclusion.

We can Survive!  We just have to be willing to become developers ourselves, get one of the easy to learn addon making programs, and fill the voids. Heck, make addons just for you. Have fun with it. To me this is like macros mach 5. I’m so going to attempt this at least. Heck, maybe I’ll make a kickbutt engineering addon or something. I don’t know.

The point that I’m trying to make is, this isn’t the end of addons, and Blizz knows that, this is the end of charging for addons. I don’t like that they can’t ask for donations anymore, that just doesn’t make much sense to me other than the fact that Blizz brought the hammer down and decided that restricting it all was easier than knitpicking. Most importantly though, this isn’t the end of addons. I’m a whole lot of talk, I’m probably going to try to make an addon, get frustrated and give up, but a lot of smarter people out there won’t, and I think we’re about to see a whole new slew of addons from a previously dormant talented population.

I am totally looking forward to the Eresin Addon for Hunter, the Zaralin Addon for Healers, the Nexultor Addon for DK’s, and the Rilgon Addon for Engineers.

The return to OpenSource addons is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Make me proud ladies and gents and spacegoats.

I’m posting out of excitement for the Flexweave Underlay and the Nitro boosts. I mentioned in the Podcast how this was going to happen. I totally rock.

I might be one of the few, but I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a blogger who doesn’t troll forums. Sorry, it just ain’t my style.

That being said, Rilgon posted a comment on how Marksman spec was looking to get improved mana regen, and in posting this, he linked a Ghostcrawler statement I wanted to note…

This is interesting since the previous goal had been to aim at bringing Survival and BM closer to MM, with MM being where the Blizz said that they wanted hunter damage to be at.

This kind of gives me a warm fuzzy feeling for BM, a “I wonder” feeling for what they are going to do to Marksman, and an indifferent feeling about the future nerfage of SV.

As a sidenote, I’d believe that the Mana Replenishment improvement aimed at Marksman is going to have to be talent based…Which makes me wonder what talent is getting changed or what talent is getting the axe…?

This was just Dav pondering the ponderable.
